To upgrade, just go to crosspointreader.com and upgrade from there. More on how I setup my Xteink X4 here.

One of the new features for this release is the ability to choose fonts.

Get your favorite font and go to crosspointreader.com/fonts to transform the font into the X4 format.

To get the font onto your device connect go to File Transfer and Create Hotspot. From there scan the first QR Code to create a connection with the device and the second QR Code to access a web interface to upload your new font.

New Hugo theme

I refreshed my website face with a new theme based on Bear Blog.

The theme, for Hugo, is the hugo-bearblog theme.

Removing the older theme

It seems there is a new and more robust way to manage themes today, by using Hugo Modules, which replaced the older method of cloning themes into the themes directory.

So, I’m replacing the theme and the theming method.

First of, we must removed the old theme. I was using the simple-list theme.

What is Jabber (aka XMPP)?

XMPP is the Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol, a set of open technologies for instant messaging, presence, multi-party chat, voice and video calls, collaboration, lightweight middleware, content syndication, and generalized routing of XML data.¹

In simple terms xmpp it’s like imap and pop3 for email. A major advantage is that you can create an account in you preferred server (just like email) and talk to another person that have an account in another server.

I’ve been using the terminal theme, but I wanted to learn more about Hugo and how to create themes. Also I’ve been wanting to change to a more minimal theme.

I came across the hugo-classic theme, and while trying to customize it I decided to give it a go, fork it, and make it my own. I also used the terminal theme as inspiration.

This is my notes on how I did it and how it turned up. You can find my Simple List theme on GitLab.

I’m a member of Headspace since April 25, 2016 and I have meditated daily, non stop, since that day.

The official count was resetted twice. Once because I changed from meditating in the morning to the night and other because I did after midnight and I guess it was too late to count.

Either way, this is a nice mark. The number is actually higher, but who’s counting 😄

Searx is a free internet metasearch engine which aggregates results from more than 70 search services. Users are neither tracked nor profiled.

I recently learned about Searx and have been using it as my main search engine.

How to use

You basically have two option: install Searx in a machine controlled by you or use one of the available Searx-instances.

For now I’m using one of the instances, namely https://searx.pofilo.fr/.

I recently started a new project at GitLab to host my new text based Getting Things Done approach.

It’s still at early stages, but I’m using it daily along my current system using Nozbe.

I’ve been a GTD guy since like forever and have used many different applications through the years. The most important thing about GTD is the method and not the tools, so changing my tool set is usually not a problem.

As an early birthday present I got the best space proved, back from ‘83, Casio G-Shock DW-5600E.

I wanted a G-Shock since I was a kid. I used a Casio F-91W when I was younger until I got a cellphone in early 2000s. After that my clock was my phone, from my first “dumb” phone the the latest smart-phones and “smart”-watches.

After buying some time ago a F-91W, remembering my 80s and 90s, I now got a super present :-)

Creating a GitLab Page

It is as easy as clone an example GitLab Page Hugo example as the base for your own blog or homepage.

Go to https://gitlab.com/pages/hugo and fork the project to your GitLab account
In your new repository, remove the fork relationship (Settings > General > Advanced > Remove fork relationship)
Make sure your have the Shared Runners enabled (Settings > CI/CD > Runners)

The goal for this blog is to document my incursions to Linux (Ubuntu), Android and my new B3 Server.

I have to manually import my blog from Squarespace :( and this will take some time.

Last week I bought a new Asus Eee 1000HE. Who can resist a 10% off the price? :-)

The main feature in this new netbook is, of course, the 9.5 hours of battery life. Amazing!

It came with Windows XP. The next thing was installing Linux. I chose Ubuntu 9.04 Netbook Remix.

Squarespace is an amazing publishing service for building websites and creating blogs.

Check out the video and prepare to be amazed.

As Kevin Rose said:

It’s a paid service, but it seems to me it’s worth every penny.

I didn’t try it yet, but there’s a free, no credit card needed, 14 days trial period.

SAPO, a portuguese ISP, and for whom might interess, hosts Free Software (Software Livre, in portuguese).

The Software Livre project is still in an early stage, but I think that it’s a great initiative.

A list of hosted projects and an english Service Catalog for Developers are available.

Currently there is a list of possible projects within the scope of SAPO Summerbits 2008.

The Software Livre platform is 100% free software and it’s running Debian GNU/Linux with trac, mailman, svn, etc.

Migration to WordPress

This blog is intended to log my latest experience in Linux.

Through the years I have tried out several distributions such as Red Hat (and later Fedora), Suse, Mandrake (now Mandriva) and the Portuguese Caixa Mágica.

There were always something that drove me back to Windows and as the years passed the free time started to be insufficient to allow me dive right into it.

I recently decided to format my laptop and install Ubuntu. I started by dual booting it with Windows to try it out first, but soon (in the same day actually) the eXPerience begun.
